Property tax exemption in Panama: review and application

To assess an exemption, we need to know the property's registered value, its use and the benefits already granted to it. At Quirós & Quirós, we review that background and prepare the appropriate application.

Kenia Rodríguez coordinates tax inquiries and documents with the legal team. We explain what the firm can handle and which supporting documents or signatures require your involvement.

How we proceed

Your consultation, step by step

  1. We review the property

We begin by identifying the property, its use and its registered values. We examine the account statement, existing benefits and available documentation to determine which background information needs review before proposing an application.

  2. We prepare the file

We determine the appropriate application and the supporting documents required. Kenia coordinates inquiries and documentation with the legal team. We explain what the firm handles and which steps require your signature or involvement.

  3. We support the application

Once the service has been agreed, we submit the application through the appropriate channel and follow up on any comments. When the decision is received, we review its scope and explain the subsequent steps applicable to your case.

For your consultation, have these ready

You can start with what you have available. We help you identify the missing information.

  • Details of the owner and property that identify the real estate and its ownership.

What we review to assess your exemption

The property

Who owns the property and the registered values of the land and improvements.

Your tax situation

The account statement, decisions and benefits already granted.

The documentation

Registry information and any updates that may be pending.

With this background, we determine the appropriate application and how we can handle it.

Which regime may apply to your property

The B/.120,000 threshold relates to the Family Tax Patrimony or Primary Residence regime. There is also a general exemption for a taxable base, including improvements, of up to B/.30,000. The purchase price alone does not determine the benefit.

We compare the tax account and decisions with the values of the land and improvements. Before applying, we check whether any information needs updating with ANATI or whether any registry matters remain pending.

When the decision is received

We review the benefit granted, its scope and the subsequent steps. If the procedure is part of a sale, succession or property review, we explain which outstanding tax matter has been resolved and which steps continue.
